Started his financial services career in 1976, He has earned the prestigious CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ (CFP®) certification from the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards, Washington, DC, and the Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC®) and the Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU®) designations from the American College, Bryn Mawr, PA.
He has also been recognized as an Accredited Tax Advisor® (ATA®) By the Accreditation Council for Accountancy and Taxation, Alexandria, VA and as an Accredited Estate Planner® (AEP®) by the National Association of Estate Planners & Councils, Cleveland, OH. He is also designated as a Certified Kingdom Advisor™ (CKA®) by Kingdom Advisors, Inc., Atlanta, GA
He is a current member of the following Industry Associations; the Financial Planning Association (FPA), the National Society of Accountants (NSA), the Estate Planning Council of Chattanooga (EPCC), Kingdom Advisors, Inc (KA), The Financial Services Institute (FSI), and the Society of Financial Service Professionals (SFSP)
Mr. Cox is also a Registered Principal* of American Portfolios Financial Services, Inc. (APFS) Holbrook, NY and an Investment Adviser Representative and Supervisor for American Portfolios Advisors, Inc. a SEC Registered Investment Adviser.
He has also served as an outside consultant and on the advisory boards for financial services firms over his 40 year career, Southmark Financial Services, Inc. (1987-1992), FSC Securities Corporation from (1995 -2001) and American Portfolios Financial Services, Inc. (2010-2015) including roles as acting liaison in the development of regulations, compliance, technology, RIA development, product review and back office processing systems
Mr. Cox previously served on the Board of Directors of the Estate Planning Council of Chattanooga (EPCC) 2006-2013 and on the Board of Directors and as President of The Society of Financial Service Professionals, Chattanooga; Chapter (President 2005-2006)(SFSP), on the board of the Chattanooga Resource Foundation (Chattanooga Matters) as Board Chairman, Treasurer and on the Executive Committee (2001-2007) (CRF), he also served on the National Board of Directors of the International Association of Qualified Financial Planners as Membership & Member Resources Chair (IAQFP) (2003-2004), and on the Board of the Spirit of America Foundation (SOA)(1999-2003)
Mr. Cox is a well-known and respected author, educator and contributing writer and is a highly sought-after speaker on a wide range of financial subjects. He served as an instructor for Lorman Educations Services teaching Fiduciary Standards for ERISA Plans and for over seven years was host of The Advisor Answer© a local call-in radio program on talk radio 102.3 FM in the Greater Chattanooga listening Area.
